Spelling · the Spelling Bee word list

Word Basher

Your character runs the path and stops at each thing it meets. The word is read aloud, the picture is on the pedestal — spell it before the clock runs out. Every word you get grows your character 1%; every one you miss shrinks it 5%. Grow to three times your size to win.

How to play

The rules, in short

  • The word is spoken

Read aloud by the same voice the Spelling Bee uses. Tap the picture, or the speaker, to hear it as often as you like.

  • Every word has a picture

Only words with a real photograph are asked — 2,667 of them, kept with the game so it works offline. Abstract words are left to the Spelling Bee: no picture truly means "euphoria".

  • Your character is the life meter

A word spelled makes it 1% bigger; a word missed makes it 5% smaller — so a mistake costs five words. Reach 300% and you win, which is 111 in a row. Shrink below 20% and the run is over, which takes 32 misses. Your size carries from one sitting to the next.

  • 12 words a sitting

A run is twelve words and then a card — how big you got, how many you spelled, your best streak, and the ones that got away so you can practise exactly those.

  • Three lists, in order

The priority words come first, then your level’s current list, then the general one. A list is only left once it has been used up, and every attempt — right or wrong — is recorded against your Spelling Bee practice.

  • Meaning, and a letter, on request

Meaning reads the definition and an example aloud and holds the clock. A hint shows one more letter for ten points and three seconds — never more than half of them, and a hinted word earns no streak bonus.
